Madam Minister (Part 13)

     Inspector Doris Agee Investigates

Isabel rolled Chidi into the bar.  Then sat on the bar chair, staring at her daddy.
“It is okay. You heard our discussions.”
Chidi has been crying,”she said.
“Where is my mom,” asked Chidi.
Dr. Monteseri stood up, and held him. Isabel came close, and held him too.
“Kate has gone to be with the Lord. She died in a car crash this morning. ” he said, his eyes wet. Chidi sobbed. Isabel joined him too. Dr. Monteseri patted them.
Your mom is in heaven with the Lord. “
He could not talk much. They held one another, crying.

Inspector Doris Agee was in her office the next morning. It was a small workstation she shared with four other field officers. It was the most modern workspace seen yet. Two of her colleagues were sitting on revolving chairs, eyes glued to the security screen for the upper suburb, desperate fingers on computers, trailing a car theft, communicating with men on the ground. She watched the chase for a while. Then shook her head and sat heavily on her desk. She opened HP book, inserted her phone, and imported the conversations she had in Dr Monteseri residence. Then she brought out CD of the two recorded videos from the CCTV cameras on Shoplite vicinity, and started another round of Investigation.
The first picture happened in the restaurant. Kate disrupted Madam Minister breakfast …Madam Minister jumped at her…the short man in suit and the man came between them…Kate walked out. She put down some notes and removed the CD.
Then she slotted the second CD. Kate stood by the sidewalk…she removed her glasses …put it on again…then stepped into…. No, there is a hand…a man’s face showed up…the short man in suit…the pastor. She rewound it. Zoomed in.
It is him,” she gasped. What is his link with MM? What is his motive? She made further notes. I’ll take him in straight away!
She brought out his business card. Then she typed some words:
Legal Unit, Police Investigation.
5th Sept, 2020.
I apply for a search warrant for Pastor Demian Elem. All the investigation details are attached. Thanks. Inspector Doris Agee, A83050.
She sent it, and waited, her fingers drumming the desk. Within seconds, a reply came in.
Insp Doris Agee,
Desk A83050,
5th Sept, 2020.
Attached is a signed copy of the investigation warrant on Pastor Demian Elem. Complete and send log forms daily. Thanks. Legal Unit.

The Secretary Police Commission was in his office when Madam Minister came in. He stood up, shook her hands, and gave her a seat. Then he went straight to the point.
"I called you here because it is very urgent and you are one of us. The Police Chief was with me this morning, seeking some clarity on the death of Kate, your sister in-law. The corona could not reach a verdict. Controversial death it seemed. ”
“You did well, Gini,” she said, smiling.
Gini pulled a face, shook his head, his hand waving at her.
“I was not with her. I was receiving a diplomat that morning,” she said.
“You fought her. You pushed her out of the restaurant…?”
“Where did you get your information, Gini!”
“The CCTV film is with the police. It has gone viral on the social media.“
“Oh my God! I don’t have anything to do with her death!”
“She died a minute after she had a fight with you?”
“You can’t just say. The last place I saw her was in that restaurant. Later I heard she had a road accident....”
"You pushed her to the precipice. She plunged. You besieged her, she lost control of her self" he said.
"This is bullshit, Gini. Back off! Are you a therapist or what?"
Then they were quiet for a while. The stare of the tall bearded man fell. He began looking down the floor, his fingers tapping the table. She opened her bag, took hankie, and dabbed her face. Then adjusted her glasses.
“Who is on this case,” he asked.
“Inspector Doris Agee.”
“She is a smart girl. Has she come to you?”
“Yes, yesterday evening,” she said, and brought out a court order.
The man read it, gave it back to her. He thought for a while.
“She has some information up her sleeves. I’ll transfer her immediately to a distant place.”
“Anywhere would do.” Then she whispered, “To what do I owe this deed.”
“Talk to the Minister of Works. I need to do that contract.”
“The bridge!”
“Yes I have people who will buy me out.”
“Don’t worry, consider it yours,” she said, smiling. Then she patted his hands, took her bag, and got up. He stood up too. And walk her to the door.
