Dream Another Day: Separated (Part 3)

He drives fast, speeds recklessly through the traffic light at East End. Then veers into Banks Avenue. After a reckless run the car screeches and halts by a brown gate. Winifreda touches his arm, smiles and alights. She goes to the driver's side stoops. Peers at him for a while. Then kisses his cheek.

"Charles, please don't fight with her. My uncle will take care of everything," she says. Then licks her lips, swirls around, her hip shaking, walks toward the gate. Charles idling, fumbling the car keys, stares on. She turns and waves bye, blowing kisses. Charles sighs, and zooms off.

Nike arrives home late. She is making dinner, dressing the table and singing songs. Thanks to Curie for her understanding. After a long argument and begging and crying, she agrees to keep the child and mother for one week more. Then the child and mother will come to Nike on Tuesday to be precise. At first she says no to such arrangement, pondering how on earth she will be raising both mother and child under Charles roof. But Curie insists otherwise, diagnoses a deficiency syndrome which will require breastfeeding the child for at least year. This is a long shot that shuts her thinking up. More she has no other options. Charles won't bring another woman into this house, she thinks.
She stops singing. And begins pacing about the rooms. Where are they going to stay? Here! I doubt if my husband....
Then the front locks quavers. The door opens, hit the wall behind it. Charles charges in, his face looking unpleasant, unwelcoming.
